California Amazon Tax ::: What it means for California consumers ::: Do I have to pay California sales tax on amazon now?

If you live in California and shop online, I'm sure you've heard of the new "California Amazon Tax" that was passed on 6/29/2011. I've heard from folks around me that Amazon will start to collect sales tax from California residents starting on 7/01/2011 (and some have actually bought items on their wishlist to avoid paying sales tax on Friday). HOWEVER, what many haven't realized is that the law as is written is only effective if Amazon has a physical presence in California, and in order to AVOID collecting sales tax from California residents, Amazon has terminated relationships with California based Amazon Affiliates to show that it doesn't have a physical presence in the state. Therefore, to the best of my knowledge and understanding of this new law, it looks like Amazon still won't be collecting sales tax from California residents at this point in time.
